Welcome to #ThrowbackThursday! Every Thursday we’ll be celebrating the wisdom of our foremothers with some themed tips from the Great Depression era. Feel free to get in on the fun! This #ThrowbackThursday, we want to help you banish dry skin all over the body! After our last #SpoilYourselfSunday post on getting smooth, soft feet, we decided we can’t neglect the rest of the skin – it is already October, after all! So we’re going to hook our amazing members up with some moisturizing whipped body butter DIYs that are frugal, fragrant, and nourishing.

There are all kinds of whipped body butter recipes out there, so we’ve done our research and selected the most natural, simple, and frugal ones. Here’s the absolute simplest, easiest, no-nonsense version of a homemade body butter:

  • In your mixing bowl, put one cup of coconut oil and a teaspoon of vitamin E oil (optional; you can also add in some of another favorite oil if you happen to have some, like sweet almond or jojoba oil), plus 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil(s).
  • Whip with the wire whisk of your stand mixer or an electric hand mixer for 5-8 minutes, until the mixture is fluffy or butter-like.
  • Scoop it into a jar or container with a lid; keep in the fridge if you like yours cold. (Remember that coconut oil will melt in warmer temps so the fridge will help your body butter keep its consistency.) That’s it!

For a body butter that’s a bit more indulgent, try this vanilla bean version with a combo of raw cocoa butter, coconut oil, and sweet almond oil (plus of course a vanilla bean!). Or, if you really wanna go crazy, whip up some of this peppermint body butter for luxurious winter skincare! Any of these recipes would be fabulous and frugal gifts – just tie a ribbon around your jar, et voila! You could even include a cute card printed with the recipe so they can have whipped body butter goodness for years to come.
