Since it’s #ThrowbackThursday, let’s multitask like mom (or grandma) and save money by making the most effective use of natural, frugal products. This week let’s chat about apple cider vinegar: it’s not just for food! ACV can be used in so many ways to improve your health, simplify your beauty routine, and clean your home. Let’s break it down.

Health uses for ACV:

  • Rub ACV on your hands and feet for a relieving massage that also balances the pH of your skin;
  • Take ACV “shots” for a natural, frugal energy boost;
  • Mix 2 teaspoons of ACV in a 16-ounce glass of water for a drink that can help you lose weight and inches off your waist;
  • Consume 2 tablespoons of ACV before bed to help lower blood sugar levels – especially important for those with diabetes;
  • Banish sunburn pain by soaking in a bath with a cup of ACV; and
  • Sort a sore throat by gargling 1/3 cup of ACV with warm water.

Beauty uses for ACV:

  • Soak some cotton balls in ACV to use as a natural toner after you wash your face;
  • Mix 1 part ACV with 3 parts water for an acne solution you can apply with a clean cotton pad up to 3 times per day;
  • Combine 1/3 cup ACV with 4 cups water for a hair rinse that will strip away grease and product buildup while leaving hair shiny;
  • Dab some ACV under your arms for a cheap, natural deodorant;
  • Banish warts with a cotton ball soaked in ACV – fasten it to the spot with a bandage and leave on overnight; and
  • Get rid of foot odor by soaking your feet in water with a little ACV.

Home uses for ACV:

  • Neutralize odors around your house by setting out a bowl of ACV;
  • Kill weeds with a mixture of 1/2 gallon ACV, 1 teaspoon dish soap, and 1/4 cup salt;
  • Add a splash of ACV to soups and dessert recipes for brighter flavor and fluffier desserts;
  • Mix equal parts water and ACV for a natural homemade cleaning solution that will eat up dirt, grime, and even bacteria like salmonella and E. coli;
  • Banish pet odors (cat or dog urine, etc) by adding some ACV to the laundry when you wash stained linens;
  • Remove bacteria and pesticides from fresh produce by swishing fruits and veggies in a solution of 1 part ACV to 9 parts water.
