10 Natural Ways to Soothe Insect Bites

Would you agree that one of the major drawbacks of summer is itchy mosquito bites? They’re just so annoying, waking you up at night and generally being a pain. And if you scratch, which you know you shouldn’t- but let’s face it you just can’t help it- you’re left with ugly scratches and scars. And sure, you could dab on some cortizone, but wouldn’t you rather try treating that itch without resorting to medication? Here are some ways to get some relief from insect bites:

1. Ice pack:

Try an ice pack to numb your skin and cancel out the itch.

2. Honey:

Honey is anti-inflammatory, which should help with the itch, and also anti-bacterial- which can help prevent infection.

3. Aloe vera:

An aloe vera plant is something you always want to have around because it’s just so useful! Soothing an itchy inset bite is one way it can help. Check out this post for more fabulous ways to use aloe.

4. Oatmeal:

Oats are known for their anti-irritant properties. Make a paste with oats and water and apply to the bite(s). Or take an oatmeal bath: add one cup of oats to the tub and soak for about 20 minutes.

6. Chamomile tea:

Or really any tea- steep a tea bag in cold water and apply to the bite. You can reuse the tea bag a few times.

6. Peppermint oil:

Mint is cooling. You can also try mint toothpaste.

7. Lemon or lime juice:

Get itch relief and antibacterial protection. Use this method only if you’ll be staying indoors; the citrus will burn in the sun.

8. Apple cider vinegar:

Dab some on your skin. The acid in the vinegar neutralized the venom that causes the itch.

9. Coconut oil:

Soothe the itch and help it heal faster.

10. Milk:

The proteins in milk calm inflammation. Dab it on with a cotton ball.
