It’s really important for a relationship to plan regular date nights. It’s a nice break from the regular routine, and it gives you a chance to focus on each other and enjoy each other’s company, which is hard to do when you’re both busy with work, family, and other responsibilities.
It’s a good idea to get out of the house, but sometimes you can’t get a sitter for your kids, or you just can’t- or don’t want- to spend the money on a sitter and a night out. That doesn’t mean you should skip out on date night, though; it just means you should have your date night at home! Start your night after the kids are in bed or keep them busy with their own activities in another room, and spend some time doing something special with your partner. Here are some ideas for an enjoyable date night at home:
- Eat dinner together. Just the two of you, without the rest of the family. Make it special with a nice tablecloth, flowers, and candles.
- Cook your meal together. If you both enjoy cooking, making dinner together can be part of the evening.
- Treat yourself to dinner. Order in from someplace special.
- Dress up. That will make it feel different than a regular night at home.
- Play a game.
- Entertainment. Watch a movie you never got to see in the theater, or binge watch a series.
- Have a theme. Coordinate your food, dress, and entertainment.
- Karaoke night. Find songs with lyrics on YouTube and sing along.
- Dance. Choose your music and dance!
- Video games. Sounds a little weird, but it could be fun.
- Learn something new. Watch an instructional video on YouTube.
The point is to set aside time to spend together, doing something different from the usual. Use your imagination and the options are endless!
