Who’s ready for the weekend? It’s important to get a break from the daily grind, a time when you’re not bound by work or school schedules and you can take it easy. You can catch up on sleep, spend time with friends and family, and do the fun things there’s no time for during the week. Weekends are for recharging your batteries and having some fun, and you can do that without even spending money! There are plenty of fun weekend activities you can do that are free, or almost free, and here are some ideas to get you started:

1. Go to the park:

For kids, there’s nothing like a good playground. You can go to one in your neighborhood, or travel a little for something new and different. Make a day of it- pack sandwiches and some balls, and involve the whole family in some free, outdoor fun.

2. Play games:

Take out those board games and cards and have a game day! We’re so wrapped up in our high-tech lives that we can forget the simple pleasures, like playing real games. Invite some friends and make it a real event.

3. Free community events:

Check your local neighborhood flyers for free events like concerts, shows, and other activities. These events are usually free, and they’re also a great opportunity to meet and mingle with your neighbors.

4. Learn something new:

Did you ever want to learn to knit, play a musical instrument, or speak another language? Learn a new skill by watching an instructional video on YouTube, or borrowing a book out of the library. You might find you have a special talent you never knew about!

5. Play sports:

Get a group together and organize a game of baseball, basketball, or whatever sport you like to play.

6. Rearrange your furniture:

Feel like redecorating, but it’s not in the budget? Rearrange the furniture and give a room a new look. Another good thing is that it’s not permanent, so if you decide it doesn’t work for you, you can always move it back.

7. Schedule a visit:

The weekend is a great time for a visit with friends or relatives you haven’t seen in a while.

8. Volunteer:

Save some money and do something meaningful at the same time. Volunteering can also be a very social activity, depending on what you do, and you might end up really enjoying yourself. There are lots of volunteer opportunities where the whole family can get involved.

9. Binge watch:

The weekend is a time to take it easy and indulge, so binge watch a series, or settle in for a movie marathon.

10. Karaoke:

No one has a bad time doing karaoke! Get some snacks and drinks and do some home karaoke on YouTube. Make it a family event or invite friends over to join you.

11. Do a crafts project:

I bet there’s something you had pinned for a long time and never got around to trying. Well, now’s your time! Crafting is fun and you have something to show for it when you’re done!

12. Have a cooking competition:

Hold a competition like Chopped or Iron Chef- you’ll have a lot of fun! If you don’t want to spend any extra money, cook things using only the ingredients you already have at home.
