Success means different things to different people, but it’s something we all want. Whether it’s money, career, relationship, or just getting through the day, it takes a bit of effort to make it work out well. There’s nothing wrong with putting in some effort- it can even make the end result more rewarding- but with the help of some tools you can make it easier to set yourself up for success.

1. Set goals.

In order to be successful at anything you need to be specific- and realistic- about what you want.

2. Make a schedule.

Itemize the steps required to reach your goal or goals and make a plan.

3. Break down projects.

Big plans (or even small plans) can seem overwhelming and scare us away from even starting. Break down projects into steps and they become more manageable. Another trick is to do the hardest things first so you get those hurdles out of the way.

3. Don’t procrastinate.

Don’t push things off! It doesn’t feel good to have things hanging over your head, so motivate yourself to get started. Once you start crossing things over your list you’ll start to feel really good about your accomplishments.

4. Have a routine.

It’s important to have some sort of routine to help keep you on track.

5. Get enough sleep.

Sleep is so important for your physical and emotional health, so make sure you get at least 7 hours each night. If you’re tired or feeling grumpy you won’t feel motivated or function well enough to accomplish much.

6. Exercise.

Exercise gives you the energy to do what you need to do.

7. Don’t multitask.

Multitasking seems like a great a idea for a busy person, but it can actually backfire on you. Do one thing at a time and give it all your focus. You’ll do a better job and you might even do it faster than if you’re juggling.

8. Tell yourself something positive.

The right attitude goes very far in helping to achieve success. Make it a point to start the day with a positive thought and let that guide you through the day.

9. Say no.

Don’t take on too much. A little challenge is good sometimes, but if you feel like you have too much going on, prioritize and spend your effort on what’s most important.

10. Ask for help.

Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Don’t be afraid of asking when you need a little backup.

11. Support.

A strong support network is very valuable. Knowing there are people who believe in you is actually a secret to success!
